The Many Benefits of Electronic Cigarettes

Posted on September 26th, 2009 in Articles | No Comments »

Electronic Cigarette BenefitsElectronic Cigarettes are a hot topic all over the internet. Video sites, blogs, and forums are full of people who have made the switch to electronic cigarettes and say they will never switch back to the old “analog” cigarettes.

So why do people love them so much?

Here are just a few reasons to consider switching to electronic cigarettes:

You can smoke electronic cigarettes without bothering non-smokers around you.  This is because…

Electronic cigarettes don’t produce the strong  odor that tobacco cigarettes do. They produce a smoke-like vapor that dissipates  quickly.

You can smoke electronic cigarettes indoors and at some bars and restaurants. Obviously not every single bar and restaurant will allow this, but as people learn about ECigarettes they gain more public acceptance. Although some may allow it, smoking your electronic cigarette on a plane may not be a good idea. Be sure to ask your airline company if they allow electronic cigarettes on board.

Electronic Cigarettes are reusable.

Electronic Cigarettes typically come with a rechargeable battery that can be charged many times over. Some as many as 300 times!

Nicotine cartridges are less expensive than buying a pack of cigarettes at the store.

A pack of cigarettes costs around $7.  Compare this to a 5-pack of nicotine cartridges that costs $9.99.  Each cartridge is roughly equivalent to 12-15 cigarettes

Electronic Cigarettes don’t have the tar and other known cancer causing carcinogens typically found in tobacco cigarettes.

You can buy all sorts of different flavored nicotine cartridges and liquids to further customize the electronic cigarette experience.

I am a Non-Smoker. Is it Safe For Me to Start Smoking Electronic Cigarettes?

Posted on September 26th, 2009 in Articles | No Comments »

Electronic Cigarette QuestionThis is a legitimate question that we get a lot.  Since there is so much evidence that points to electronic cigarettes being safer than tobacco cigarettes many non-smokers want to know if they can safely take part in the ECigarette revolution.

Here are the facts: Both tobacco cigarettes and electronic cigarettes contain the famous chemical known as nicotine. Nicotine is said to be just as addictive as heroin or crack. This is one of the reasons so many people have a hard time quitting smoking.

Nicotine is Nicotine

While electronic cigarettes can have varying degrees of nicotine, the bottom line is that they still have it.  And just like the nicotine in tobacco cigarettes, it is extremely addictive.  It doesn’t take much at all to get hooked and electronic cigarettes are no different.  They were designed as a cleaner alternative for people who are already currently smoking tobacco cigarettes. Teenagers and non-smokers thinking about trying electronic cigarettes should definitely stay away.

No reason to start

If you’ve gone this far without smoking there’s no reason to start now. Instead of smoking cigarettes (electronic or otherwise) you should take a jog around the block a couple times or start an exercise regime. These are healthy activities that most regular smokers would have a difficult time doing.

So to all of you non-smokers out there: Keep not smoking, you are the envy of all who are trying to kick the habit!

A message from the President of the Electronic Cigarette Association

For those new to electronic cigarettes, this is an excellent and informative video that has some good comparisons of electronic cigarettes and tobacco cigarettes. Ironically, the president of the Electronic Cigarette Assoc., Matt Salmon, is a non smoker that believes people have the right to smoke as well as a right to an alternative to tobacco smoke. Back in 2000, Salmon was named Congressmen of the year by the American Cancer Society. An important point he discusses is about electronic cigarettes having only 20 ingredients all of which are safe for human consumption. Compare this to tobacco cigarettes that have 4,000 ingredients, dozens of which cause cancer.

Vapor King 510 Electronic Cigarette Kit Review

For this article we reviewed the Vapor King 510 (Double) Electronic Cigarette kit being sold by Electronic Cigarettes Inc.

When we received the Vapor King 510 it came neatly packed in a small white gift box. The box contained 2 batteries, a wall outlet charger, 2 atomizers, an instruction manual, and 5 high strength nicotine cartridges.

We got the white version of the kit so all batteries, atomizers, and cartridges came in white. There are also black and stainless steel kits available as well. A big thanks goes out to Electronic Cigarettes Inc. for sending us this free sample to review for our loyal readers!

Presentation and Aesthetics

The first thing we did was assemble our electronic cigarette. The nicotine cartridge fits snugly inside of the atomizer which then screws into the battery. When held in hand the Vapor King 510 feels solid and durable and looks stylish. The gold ring on the end of the atomizer is a nice touch.

On the battery is a small black button that must be pressed to take a drag from the cigarette. If it is not pushed no vapor is released. This may sound like a hassle but it’s actually a nice feature because it allows the user to take a drag for as long as they want.

Vapor Production

The batteries were already charged on arrival so we were able to test the Vapor King 510 right after we assembled it. The most notable benefit is that there is no cutoff time when taking a puff from the Vapor King. You can take as long or short of a drag as you want. Other ECigs on the market will only allow the user to pull for about 5 or 6 seconds before cutting off. We were also pleasantly surprised to find that the 510 didn’t require much work to take a drag from. Some other models like the KR808D require a bit more effort to take a pull from.

Battery Life

The Battery life really depends on your habits and how often you smoke. It could last anywhere from 1 to 8 hours. If you smoke a lot you may want to consider carrying an extra battery on the go. Charging takes about a 1-1.5 hr and the gift box states that each battery can be charged around 300 times. Electronic Cigarettes Inc. also sells a portable charger pack that didn’t come with the double kit that we tested. The portable charger pack can charge a Vapor King 510 battery up to 3 times before having to be recharged itself. It also holds an atomizer and two extra nicotine cartridges. If you are a frequent smoker this might be a wise investment as the wall charger only charger can only charge one battery at a time and doesn’t do much good if you aren’t at home.

Cartridge Life

The cartridges are said to be the rough equivalent of 12-15 cigarettes which isn’t as much as a regular pack of cigarettes but when you consider that 5 cartridges costs $10 it’s easy to see the savings.

In Closing

The Vapor King 510 allows smokers to take as long or as short of a puff as they want, looks stylish, has a good battery life, and inexpensive refill cartridges. It is available in three different styles and gives users the option to smoke flavored nicotine. The only real drawback we found was that the wall charger only charges one cigarette at a time. However, this is easily remedied with the portable charger pack. Overall, this is an exceptional electronic cigarette kit and we would recommend it to anyone considering making the switch.

Will Electronic Cigarettes help me to quit smoking?

Posted on September 24th, 2009 in Articles | No Comments »

No Smoking SignThere are some ECigarette retailers out there that talk as if they are the cure all for quitting smoking claiming that it can be done “Anytime, Anywhere”. Sadly this just isn’t the case. If you’re a regular smoker and have ever tried to quit without success, heck, even with success then you know how hard it is to kick the habit. The withdrawal symptoms can get to be so unbearable that the potential quitter feels no choice but to start smoking again just so they will feel “normal.” If you’re trying to quit don’t lose hope. Most people aren’t able to quit on the first try, or even the second, third, fourth, etc… To understand why outrageous claims such as these are being made, one must understand what electronic cigarettes actually are.

Electronic Cigarettes are an alternative to tobacco.

You’ve probably seen ads about “Healthy” electronic cigarettes. It’s wrong to call them healthy because no form of putting smoke in your lungs is healthy. “Healthier” (than tobacco cigarettes) might be a better word to describe the ECigarette and by now most people are aware that there are thousands of harmful chemicals and carcinogens in cigarettes. ECigarettes could be considered healthier in the sense that they don’t contain these cancer causing chemicals. They instead use a Propylene Glycol vapor to deliver the nicotine to the lungs.

Propylene glycol is a Generally Recognized as Safe (GRAS) food additive that is widely used in

• Food and tobacco products,

• Pharmaceuticals, and

• Cosmetics.

So why do people say ECigarettes can help you quit?

Electronic Cigarettes offer something tobacco cigarettes can’t: The ability for the consumer to choose the amount of nicotine in their cigarette. You can buy an ECigarette cartridge that has a high nicotine count as well as medium, low, and even one that has no nicotine at all. Hypothetically speaking, if one were trying to quit smoking they could buy an ECigarette kit and wean themselves from high nicotine gradually down to none and possibly have an easier time quitting.

ECigarettes also carry the added benefit of not having to be lit by flame. How many times have you lit a cigarette only to take a few puffs and throw it away? Electronic cigarette smokers enjoy the luxury of being able to take a couple puffs here and there without having to worry about throwing away money. Yes, you could cut the butt off early and put it back in the pack but we all know how awful that makes everything smell.

The Bottom Line

is that ECigs are still in their infancy and it’s just too early to tell if they really will help people quit for good due to lack of scientific testing. That being said, ECigarettes have been very well received in forum and blog communities around the web. Many people have reported making the switch to ECigarettes and found themselves smoking less and not having that sluggish run down feeling that comes with smoking cigarettes.
